Susan Sipprelle, the director of “Soldier on: Life After Deployment,” said creating the film led to a greater understanding of veterans’ issues. The 80-minute movie follows three characters as they confront different aspects of life after being discharged. One woman recovers from a military sexual trauma while another suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.
“These issues are especially relevant now,” said Sipprelle, 58, of Engelwood, N.J. “Women are a necessary part of our armed forces today to fill our recruitment needs. I became very passionate about the fact that we accept this demographic that serves us and do everything in our power to recognize them. The message is that these are real people, all of them.”
